Todays #boardbooks are babys first Colors & babys first 123 from DK Books Canada.  This brightly coloured duo with raised textures and a mix of photographic and illustrative elements are ideally designed for baby & toddlers developing sight and touch.  High contrast and lively (we do love a good rainbow here at the blog) they are a great “grow with me” addition to your library and sweet to add to a shower gift too!  DK makes sturdy, quality books to last and these are no exception.  They are ready to endure years of little hands!

Today’s #boardbook is a really fun novelty title: Quantum Computing for Babies by Chris Ferrie and Whurley via @raincoastbooks.  This simplified version of a very complex idea is part of an adorable series for babies!

We might have a soft spot for this title here at the blog because we have a Daddy who works in IT!

We love this simple, high contrast tour of how computers solve problems.  The shapes and colours are perfect for new eyes and the content is perfect for every computer/IT/science geek in your life.  An amazing shower gift!  Recommended newborn+up, a giftable, notable board book!

Today’s lap sized #boardbook is 100 First Animals by DK Books Canada, a delightful tour of animals, big and small, striped and spotted, scaled and shelled, in the sea and in the trees.  We love the bold, high contrast imagery perfect for developing eyes in that crucial first year.  And we love how this book can grow with your child from things to point at it to names to declare as the language explosion happens around 2.5.  A bright, brilliant collection perfect for baby shower gifts and first libraries.  Recommended newborn +up!

It’s double pairs today on the blog!  A pair of wonderful #boardbooks and a pair of amazing touch & feel flash cards from DK Canada Books!
First up:  Baby’s First Words & Baby’s First Baby Animals.  These bold, beautiful board books are bursting with colour and perfect for baby’s developing sight.  I know we talk a lot about high contrast imagery for babies - but seriously, they’re wired to love bold, bright colours and stark contrasts as their sight takes leaps and bounds that first year!  Pastels might be tempting to grown-ups, but a colour extravaganza is perfect for a baby.  These two board books would make great shower gifts!  Recommended from birth +up, these books can grow with your small and last into toddlerhood.

Second up:  My First Animals & My First Things That Go.  We love these touch & feel flash cards!  Filled with textures and bold colours and on the back of each card, simple questions to ask your small so they can interact fully with the cards!  Our 3 year old protagonist loved shouting out answers and describing the textures.  This set can grow with your small and makes for a lively and fun reading and naming activity!  Recommended 2.5 & up.

Today’s #boardbook is:  Is it Warm Enough for Ice Cream? via DK Canada, a tour of the four seasons using their ability to support ice cream as a guide.  We love this whimsical tour of seasonal highlights (and we love ice cream!).  Bright colours, high contrast imagery and simple descriptions of seasonal delights make this an ideal book for toddlers with loads of fun things to spot and name. A gentle “first science” book, smalls can explore temperature, weather, plants and animals by season.  A wonderful “call to answer” book as well, our three year old small protagonist enjoyed answering the question “Is it warm enough for ice cream?” with a giggling “Nooooooo!” each time it was not summer.

Recommended for 2+up.

Next up in the blog’s continuing Baby Shower Season coverage:  one of my personal recommendations!  The “That’s Not My…” series by Fiona Watt & Rachel Wells via Usborne & Harper Collins Canada.
The premise of these touch & feel books is simple:  A little white mouse notes what makes the duck (or other animal depending on book) not quite the one he is looking for until finding his on the last page.  Vibrant colours, high contrast imagery and large, quality touch & feel elements made these books a huge hit with my small from a few months old onward.  They have stood the test of time, he is two and a half and still brings them to me, reciting many of the pages by himself and now enjoying “finding the mouse” on each page. I give these books with every shower gift I build and recommend them. Usborne is a UK publisher and they make high quality, beautiful books.  These are at the pricier end of board books at $12 or $13 each but are available in 3 book value boxsets at most major retailers.  A great gift for new parents with favourite animals or nursery themes as this series is large and just about every animal you can think of is available.  Recommended newborn + up!

Today’s board books are two new Follow the Trail titles from DK Canada: Follow the Trail Bugs & Follow the Trail Baby Dinosaurs.

We have featured Follow the Trail titles before on the blog and they are super fun for smalls!  Lap sized and sturdy these bright, sensory friendly books have finger trails to follow and loads of little details to spot.  Bold and high contrast with clean lines these books are designed for developing eyes and can be enjoyed from 6 months & up.  Great for the language explosion too so 2 & onwards can delight in the vocabulary.

Bonus blog call out:  Easy, phonetic spellings of the dinosaur names for grown-ups.
