Today’s #boardbook is Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site: Let’s Go! by Sherri Dusky Rinker, illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld via @raincoastbooks.  This abbreviated version of Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site is perfect for busy smalls with shorter attention spans.  Bright colours, bold machines, satisfying sensory shapes to each page and simple, rhyming text make this a great read for bedtime, nap time, day time, any time!  Lots of call-outs for toddlers excited to try their words.  This a wonderful addition to the series.  Recommended 9 months and up!

Today’s picture book is an interactive masterpiece by the wonderful french artist Herve Tullet via @raincoastbooks.  It’s called Say Zoop and features adorable paint drops that represent sounds.  Each page encourages reader and child alike to use shape, colour, size and patterns to imitate increasingly complex sounds.  Smalls will love poking the dots and letting loose with Oh’s, Ah’s and Wahoo’s with you!  This book is long enough to go the distance with a child 3+up but can easily be edited for smalls 2+up who are newly verbal.  My 2.5 year old LOVES this book and delights in repeat reads as he becomes an expert at remembering which dots do what.  Board book covers and durable inner pages make this great for small hands.
Bonus blog call-out:  Here is a book to inspire activities afterwards, from tossing yarn balls, gluing their own sound patterns or using paint to create their own Zoop book!  Herve Tullet delights in unleashing the creative power of children through play!

Today’s picture book is Mighty Mighty Construction Site by Sherri Dusky Rinker, illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld via @raincoastbooks & @chroniclebooks.  This is a follow up to the NYT Bestselling Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site.

A lengthy, rhyming tale of construction vehicles and their exciting day filled with heavy loads, team work and everyone playing a special role, this beautifully illustrated picture book is great for smalls in the construction vehicle fandom! We love all the friendly details, cheerful expressions and catchy language in this tale.

It is a longer read so I recommend this for smalls 4+up unless you plan to abbreviate some pages as you go.  Definitely a title they can grow with filled with charm, camaraderie and a gentle sense of day to night.

Today’s picture books are Mamasaurus & Papasaurus by Stephan Lomp via @chroniclebooks & @raincoastbooks.  Mamasaurus is available now & Papasaurus releases in May, just in time for Father’s Day.

These were provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review, after I saw the covers and squee’d & requested them to review because: ADORABLE DINOSAURS!

These sweet books totally lived up to their beautiful covers!  The classic “Have you seen my Mama/Papa?” storyline featuring the cutest baby dinosaurs you will see this year.  Gorgeous gift books for new parents and dinosaur loving smalls!  Recommended for all ages, prehistoric + up!

Today’s board books are part of a transportation series and have been my near-two-year-old small’s favourite all year.  We have Cars Go, Trains Go and Planes Go (there are many others) by Steve Light, published by Chronicle Books (whose titles are always a delight!) and they are a hilarious, sound-effect driven pleasure to read.

These long, over-sized board books are sturdy, lively and bright and each two page spread is long enough to drive your OWN vehicle across (always a fave at our house!)  I give these as gifts often and can’t recommend them enough.  BONUS!  Listening to your partner and family attempt these sound effects is its own reward.  You’re welcome. (Husband and I debated heartily over the pronunciation of “Bripity” for days.)

Recommended for all babies, toddlers and vehicle enthusiasts!  Birth to 3+ VROOOOOOOOM!
