Today in our continuing Pop Up Peekaboo series with DK Canada, is Pop Up Peekaboo Numbers!
This bright, cheerful, lap-sized board book counts gently to ten with adorable pop-up counting surprises as a busy bee searches for its family. We love the peep-inside, generous flaps that reveal sweet, spring-time critters to count.
This one is highly giftable, great for babies, toddlers, showers, a truly sweet book for any smalls library! Recommended newborn + up thanks to high contrast imagery and elements that can grow with your small!
Today’s #picturebook in our “Week of Elly MacKay” is Butterfly Park via @runningpress & Hachette Books Canada. This gorgeous book is the story of a little girl moving from the country to the city. She will miss the greenery and flowers and butterflies of her old home. Next door to her new house however, is a tiny park called Butterfly Park! Excited, she heads in only to find there isn’t a single butterfly within. Soon she has her entire neighbourhood engaged in pursuing butterflies to find what they love–flowers! And when she brings flowers to Butterfly park, her neighbours join her to garden and create a lush, butterfly paradise making the little girls new house finally feel like home.
The beautiful colours and light play in this book capture the magic of childhood chases and the extraordinary magic of nature’s prettiest colours. The final garden is a gatefold so large it reached the very edges of my little studio to photograph and the inside cover comes off to reveal a poster of all the flowers needed to make your own “butterfly garden”.
A beautiful book to share with your smalls. Recommended 2+up. Stayed tuned for Friday when we’ve teamed up with the wonderful Elly MacKay for a giveaway!
Happy May 1st everyone from our blog! Baby shower season continues and what better book to blog next then a Hedgehugs book from @raincoastbooks by UK husband and wife team Steve Wilson & Lucy Tapper.
Today’s title is Hedgehugs and the Hattiepillar a sweet-as-pie little board book featuring Horace & Hattie, the very best of friends. This is the second title in this series. The first title is Hedgehugs and the story behind these two hedgehogs is a delight. (Watch an interview with Steve Wilson & Lucy Tapper talking about it here).
Hedgehugs and the Hattiepillar is a Very Hungry Caterpillar with hedgehogs! Adorable and sweet, a gorgeous, colourful read for smalls aged newborn and up. Lucy Tapper’s patterns in the illustrations are from her own children’s baby clothes, which she didn’t want to give up. These books are literally built with a mother’s love and it shines through in the viewing.
A wonderful shower gift for parents to be and a story that can grown with your child to be enjoyed for years.
Bonus blog call-out: Tiny bug friends appear throughout the pages and our own small loved finding the ladybug (red is our favourite colour).
