Today’s lift-the-flap counting #boardbook is Animal 123 by talented illustrator Jonny Lambert via DK Canada.
An instant hit at our house, this sturdy, colourful counting book has ALL the flaps:  side flaps, top flaps, DOUBLE FLAPS and things to find and count in every scene.  Our newly minted 4 year old small protagonist LOVES it on repeat and so I can’t say enough about a great counting book.  It starts out a fabulous, high contrast, sturdy and exciting touch & see book for your baby and grows with them through every stage until they are playing seek & find with every page and naming animals like a pro!  The DK quality really shines through on this book and Jonny Lambert’s illustrations are a delight!
Recommended 3 months & up for counters & animals lovers big & small!

Today’s beautiful lift-the-flap #boardbooks are Peek-a-baby Farm & Peek-a-baby Ocean by Mike Orodan via @raincoastbooks.  These adorable parent & baby peekaboo books are publishing in March and we love love LOVED them at our house.

Highlights:
 - stunning high contrast colour palettes perfect for baby’s developing eyes!

 - variety of animals (hooray for otters, octopus and donkeys!  We don’t usually see these guys!)

 - some mention of Mama & Daddy but some just animal titles allowing for a variety of parent names besides the classics!

 - each book finishing on bedtime (GLORY!) and gently illustrating some tender co-sleeping

 - chunky shaped pages and flaps great for little hands to use!

These books are as lovely for a new baby as for my inquisitive four year old who enjoyed learning baby animals names and easily turning pages and flaps himself before bed.  A gorgeous addition to any small’s library and sweet baby shower gifts!  Recommended Newborn & Up!

Since it’s International Dinosaur Month, it’s the perfect time to blog a few dinosaur books from DK Canada’s online Dinosaur Boutique!  Up today: Roar Roar Baby Dinosaur!
This chunky board book features lift the flaps both big and small and flap-activated dinosaur sounds!  The sounds are solar powered so if you’re enjoying this read at night, have a little flashlight handy for your small!
There’s a lot to love in this read:
 - Adorable dinosaur hide & seek
 - Handy phonetic pronunciations for grown-ups
 - Amazing dinosaur sounds!
Our favourite hands-down is the snoring of the sleeping triceratops!  Adored by my 3 year old small.   A wonderful dinosaur book to enjoy with smalls 1.5 & up!

We’re back with more Pop-Up Peekaboo delights this week via DK Canada.  Today’s book is: Pop-Up Peekaboo Things That Go, a wonderful hide-and-seek style story featuring vehicles of land, sea and air!  We love the many different directions each sturdy flap opens to!  The detail and quality of the pop-ups is ideal for little hands.  A wonderful, bright, read in a nice lap-sized board book.  Great for smalls newborn + up, a great baby shower gift and equally adored by older toddler smalls who can name objects, colours and scenes with pride!

It’s double pairs today on the blog!  A pair of wonderful #boardbooks and a pair of amazing touch & feel flash cards from DK Canada Books!
First up:  Baby’s First Words & Baby’s First Baby Animals.  These bold, beautiful board books are bursting with colour and perfect for baby’s developing sight.  I know we talk a lot about high contrast imagery for babies - but seriously, they’re wired to love bold, bright colours and stark contrasts as their sight takes leaps and bounds that first year!  Pastels might be tempting to grown-ups, but a colour extravaganza is perfect for a baby.  These two board books would make great shower gifts!  Recommended from birth +up, these books can grow with your small and last into toddlerhood.

Second up:  My First Animals & My First Things That Go.  We love these touch & feel flash cards!  Filled with textures and bold colours and on the back of each card, simple questions to ask your small so they can interact fully with the cards!  Our 3 year old protagonist loved shouting out answers and describing the textures.  This set can grow with your small and makes for a lively and fun reading and naming activity!  Recommended 2.5 & up.

Today’s #boardbook starts a 2 week blitz of wonderful DK Canada books on the blog and finishes with a 3-book giveaway on February 16th!

First up:  Colours with Ladybug, a lively, sparkly, finger-trail tale following a ladybug who collects a boot in every colour of the rainbow.  Each page explores a colour and has a finger trail your small can trace to find ladybug’s next boot.

This bright, high-contrast, texture filled book is wonderful for babies developing eyes and sense of touch.  We love rainbows here at the blog and our 3 year old protagonist asked for this book on repeat, delighted to call out colours, vocabulary and trails as he recognized them.  So we recommend this book for babies 6 months+up and toddlers too.  A book to grow with them that will be rediscovered at each stage with new things to enjoy.
