Todays #boardbooks are babys first Colors & babys first 123 from DK Books Canada. This brightly coloured duo with raised textures and a mix of photographic and illustrative elements are ideally designed for baby & toddlers developing sight and touch. High contrast and lively (we do love a good rainbow here at the blog) they are a great “grow with me” addition to your library and sweet to add to a shower gift too! DK makes sturdy, quality books to last and these are no exception. They are ready to endure years of little hands!
Recommended newborn +up.
Today in our continuing Pop Up Peekaboo series with DK Canada, is Pop Up Peekaboo Numbers!
This bright, cheerful, lap-sized board book counts gently to ten with adorable pop-up counting surprises as a busy bee searches for its family. We love the peep-inside, generous flaps that reveal sweet, spring-time critters to count.
This one is highly giftable, great for babies, toddlers, showers, a truly sweet book for any smalls library! Recommended newborn + up thanks to high contrast imagery and elements that can grow with your small!
Annnnd we’re back! This week with the fabulous DK Canada Publishing for a week of Pop-up Peekaboo books to delight your smalls!
First up is Pop-Up Peekaboo Pumpkin because I don’t know about you guys, but at the first hint of a chill breeze, there were pumpkins on my doorstep. All hail Autumn.
We love Pop-Up Peekaboo Pumpkin! A sturdy, lap-size board book filled with Halloween imagery–but in friendly, stuffy toy form for smalls to enjoy without a scare. Huge peekaboo flaps are great for little hands and gorgeous, high contrast Halloween colours are perfect for developing eyes. A Halloween classic to enjoy for many years to come. Recommended ages 1.5 & up!
Today on the blog it’s Sophie the Giraffe’s BIRTHDAY! Hooray! Happy Birthday Sophie!
Sophie the Giraffe has been around since 1961 as a safe, natural teething toy for babies. The published books about Sophie via DK Canada are wonderful, quality board books, touch & feel, pop-up and bedtime stories.
I stand by these books as they’ve lived in my home for a few years now and stand the test of time. Though the colour palette is varied, these are not the usual high-contrast faire so popular for babies and toddlers, they are soothing and gentle, not usually popular with my busy boy, yet he has loved them since first sight! Sophie and her friends explore colours, textures, animals, toys and vehicles in gentle text and routines comforting and familiar to smalls.
Good Night Sophie is a favourite at our house as Sophie puts all her little friends to bed first–a popular idea with little people who love to take their own stuffies and toys through their own routines.
Quality textures, beautiful pop-ups and sturdy construction make these gorgeous, durable gifts with a long shelf life. Today we have featured seven titles from Sophie’s library:
- Sophie on the Move
- Sophie’s Pop-up Peekaboo
- Sophie’s Busy Day
- Good Night Sophie
- Sophie’s Big Busy Playbook
- Sophie Peekaboo Colors
We recommend all of Sophie’s fabulous books from birth onward.
Today’s lap sized #boardbook is 100 First Animals by DK Books Canada, a delightful tour of animals, big and small, striped and spotted, scaled and shelled, in the sea and in the trees. We love the bold, high contrast imagery perfect for developing eyes in that crucial first year. And we love how this book can grow with your child from things to point at it to names to declare as the language explosion happens around 2.5. A bright, brilliant collection perfect for baby shower gifts and first libraries. Recommended newborn +up!
Today on the blog we begin a three day review of Petite Boutique books, which has a line made exclusively for Indigo/Chapters “Indigo Baby” brand. These quality board books and cards are rich with the lively and adorable illustrations of the talented Veronique Petit and value priced for Indigo’s Bargain section. Costco Mama’s take note! Gorgeous books at a gorgeous price! Published by Make Believe Ideas.
We always love a tour of Canadian animals here at the blog and We Live in Canada is a bright, tour de force of Canadian cuties in a bright yet earthy colour palette we really enjoy. Sturdy lift the flaps and soft touch and feel elements make this interactive book a delight for little hands. Recommended 6 months+up.
Bonus blog call-out: That little goose though…<3
Nursery Rhymes is a trove of classics, busy with bold, lively imagery and brought to life with a compilmentary CD! An excellent gift for new parents to enjoy with their smalls from newborn+up!
Thanks to Indigo’s Bargain Kids Buyer for sending these lovely books to us for review! More to come this week, so stay tuned!
Next up on the blogs #babyshowerseason recommendations: Sandra Boynton! This author’s whimsical, rhyming tales are classics and resonate with all smalls (even my busy small who stopped for no rhymes until The Going To Bed Book!)
There are loads to choose from by this talented author (via Little Simon) and many are also songs. These are the books you will read until you know them by heart. The rhymes are adorable and rife with opportunities for dramatics and sound effects making them a pleasure to read again and again. I always include one of THESE in my baby shower gifts too!
Today’s board books are part of a transportation series and have been my near-two-year-old small’s favourite all year. We have Cars Go, Trains Go and Planes Go (there are many others) by Steve Light, published by Chronicle Books (whose titles are always a delight!) and they are a hilarious, sound-effect driven pleasure to read.
These long, over-sized board books are sturdy, lively and bright and each two page spread is long enough to drive your OWN vehicle across (always a fave at our house!) I give these as gifts often and can’t recommend them enough. BONUS! Listening to your partner and family attempt these sound effects is its own reward. You’re welcome. (Husband and I debated heartily over the pronunciation of “Bripity” for days.)
Recommended for all babies, toddlers and vehicle enthusiasts! Birth to 3+ VROOOOOOOOM!
