Today’s adorable tiny finger-puppet #boardbooks are: Baby Orca Finger Puppet Book & Baby Piglet Finger Puppet Book from @raincoastbooks & illustrated by Yu-Hsuan Huang.
This sweet series includes a permanent finger puppet in each book for interactive reading and play. Simple text follows a day in the life of these cute baby animals.
I’m chuffed these two books are releasing together in mid-March because it let me photograph: orca & piglet super friends! How cute do they look together? So cute.
There is truly one of these books for everyone’s favourite animal or super friend combo! A delightful treat in your small’s library and an irresistible gift for babies new or toddling. Recommended newborn +up (bonus: 3 & 4 year olds love these too!)
Today’s beautiful lift-the-flap #boardbooks are Peek-a-baby Farm & Peek-a-baby Ocean by Mike Orodan via @raincoastbooks. These adorable parent & baby peekaboo books are publishing in March and we love love LOVED them at our house.
- stunning high contrast colour palettes perfect for baby’s developing eyes!
- variety of animals (hooray for otters, octopus and donkeys! We don’t usually see these guys!)
- some mention of Mama & Daddy but some just animal titles allowing for a variety of parent names besides the classics!
- each book finishing on bedtime (GLORY!) and gently illustrating some tender co-sleeping
- chunky shaped pages and flaps great for little hands to use!
These books are as lovely for a new baby as for my inquisitive four year old who enjoyed learning baby animals names and easily turning pages and flaps himself before bed. A gorgeous addition to any small’s library and sweet baby shower gifts! Recommended Newborn & Up!
Today on the blog are four titles from the upcoming Baby Animal Finger Puppet series by Yu Hsuan via @raincoastbooks: Baby Hedgehog, Baby Penguin, Baby Koala & Baby Duck.
Each board book is a compact, palm size, featuring a sturdy finger puppet that pokes through each page. The puppets are encouraged into lots of fun movements and sounds by the gentle story in each title. This classic format delights babies and kids alike and the variety of animals in this list ensures you can find just the right one(s) for your family.
Recommended 6 months+up.

It’s double pairs today on the blog! A pair of wonderful #boardbooks and a pair of amazing touch & feel flash cards from DK Canada Books!
First up: Baby’s First Words & Baby’s First Baby Animals. These bold, beautiful board books are bursting with colour and perfect for baby’s developing sight. I know we talk a lot about high contrast imagery for babies - but seriously, they’re wired to love bold, bright colours and stark contrasts as their sight takes leaps and bounds that first year! Pastels might be tempting to grown-ups, but a colour extravaganza is perfect for a baby. These two board books would make great shower gifts! Recommended from birth +up, these books can grow with your small and last into toddlerhood.
Second up: My First Animals & My First Things That Go. We love these touch & feel flash cards! Filled with textures and bold colours and on the back of each card, simple questions to ask your small so they can interact fully with the cards! Our 3 year old protagonist loved shouting out answers and describing the textures. This set can grow with your small and makes for a lively and fun reading and naming activity! Recommended 2.5 & up.
Next up in our week of #myfirst #boardbooks with DK Canada is My First Baby Animals. We loved the rich, high definition photography in this book–it felt like you could reach out and touch these babies! Lots of familiar themes but some great uncommon baby animals as well! (Bonus! A whole page of baby BIRDS, this blogging mama’s FAVE!) This is an adorable lap read for your smalls (and pretty darn cute for grown ups too).
Recommended newborn + up, a great baby shower gift!
Stay tuned for our end-of-week giveaway with DK. You could win EVERY SINGLE BOOK in my first photograph! That’s right, an entire My First Library!
Theres lots to love in these titles:
- We love that the imagery is simple and clean against a white backdrop because the textures are the busy part, helping little ones focus their senses
- Two distinctly different touch and feel elements per animal
- Quality, these are touch & feel books to stand up to busy hands (as tested by my 2 year old). Sturdy spines, thick pages and a special call-out to the cow & sheep textures which were quite authentic!
- A good size - small enough to travel, but big enough that you don’t lose out on the visuals
- Little fun details like the foot prints of each animal on the page & things the animals like to eat or play with as well
These stand-out titles are great for busy babies aged 6 months + up and fab for busy animal loving toddlers too. A bright, brilliant add to any shower gift!
These large, square board books are bright, sturdy and great for little hands. With themes our littles love they offer ample opportunity for learning and play. Follow each trail to match, travel and uncover facts! Recommended 2+up
